Las Anitas breeding farm obtained the US title, but before he had been awarded the Grand Champion of the Expo Prado and had also been honored as the best in South America.

Kamikaze, the Polled Hereford bull bred by Las Anitas breeding farm from Durazno, property of the Alfonso family, was voted the world’s best Hereford male in a competition held by the specialized portal Hereford Breeder.

The decision was announced in the context of a livestock show in Dallas, Texas, United States.

Las Anitas breeding farm had won the Polled Hereford Grand Champion at the Expo Prado in 2014 and was subsequently ranked as the best in South America, through to the final stage of the competition, where he competed against four other prominent bulls, the best of each continent where the breed is raised.

The silver medal was awarded to a US bull (ECR Who Maker 210 ET); and the bronze medal was obtained by a breeder from Denmark (Moeskaer Pacman 1417). The judges included an expert from each continent plus a vote from the audience through the portal.

Kamikaze also has an important page written in the history of commercialization of genetics in Uruguay, since during the Expo Prado it set the record price of the historic exhibition organized by the Rural Association of Uruguay. On that occasion 50% of the animal was sold at USD 55,000, which means he was valued at USD 110,000. It was purchased by Estancia Los Molles, Argentine owned company located on route 26, on the border of the departments of Paysandú and Tacuarembó.

From the US, Fernando Alfonso, one of the chiefs at Las Anitas when talking to the Observador highlighted the great achievement and stressed the high level of Uruguayan Hereford genetics as well as of other breeds.

He further noted that Kamikaze is producing very important offspring, showing that it not only stands out for its physical conformation but also through what is transmitted to his offspring.

Alfonso confirmed the strong interest of Hereford breeders from USA, Canada and Australia. “We are not just talking about average breeding farms but about leading edge breeders who are asking for our genetics. Uruguayan genetics is at the highest level”, he said.
