The Ballet Nacional Sodre (BNS) enchanted audiences and critics in his debut tour in Spain. This is the first time a South American ballet tours Spain.

The tour includes 15 performances in the renowned Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and Teatros del Canal in Madrid.

This is the first time that a South American company performs with all its crew in Spain. At the moment more tan 14,000 tickets were sold.

The BNS performed in the Gran Teatre Liceu until December 20. Then they moved to Madrid to perform at Teatro Auditorio San Lorenzo del Escorial, with a varied program. They perform Paquita by Luis Ortigoza, One and Others (Demis Volpi) and Sinfonietta (Jirí Kylián).

Also in Madrid they will perform Coppelia from December 27 to January 1st at Teatros del Canal. And from January 4 to 8 they will be doing Petite Mort (Jirí Kylián), Without Words (Nacho Duato) and Sinfonietta.

The newspaper El País from Catalonia highlighted the BNS rendition of Coppelia as “dynamic, magical, and masterly performed”.

“The BNS captivated the audience with its disciplined dance, its ‘Sur les pointes’ excellent work and its precise and amazing jumps and turns. The character dances like mazurkas, czardas, gigas and boleros have a great energy and color. To unify the work of more than 70 dancers it’s not easy. But Julio Bocca, director of the ballet since 2010, achieved a great success doing it. Bravo Julio!”.

The newspaper also highlighted the excellent work of the leading couple. “Maria Riccetto in the role of Swanilda, with a magic souplesse and Gustavo Carvalho as a dashing Franz”.

At its turn El Punt Avui, marked the “surprise” of the BNS performance in the grand Teatro Liceu. “A great surprise. The BNS offered a 10 point Coppelia”.

“The philosopher José Antonio Marina wrote about how dancers have to execute complicated movements with the appearance that all is supple and simple, ‘a piece of cake’. And that was that the BNS dancers did (…) I think as much in Maria Ricetto who bordered excellence in her vivid, pleasant and generous Coppelia, as in Gustavo Carvalho exultant in his role as Frank, with big and reassured jumps. Also Paula Penachio and Lucas Erni were not behind. Penachio with balances that left the audience open-mouthed and Erni with an amazing flexibility in the big jumps”, said the chronicle.
