Uruguay is one of the few countries in the world in which the number of tourist arrivals surpasses its total population, over 3 million.
It is a safe, environmentally friendly country. It has beautiful natural landscapes, ranging from oceanic coastlines to hot springs, gorges and meadows. The country boasts over 600 kilometers of beaches, with coasts on the Río de la Plata and the Atlantic Ocean. It has a mild and humid climate (average 17° C/62.6° F), with warm summers and relatively homogeneous rainfall throughout the year. Due to its latitude, between 30° and 35°, the four seasons are clearly distinguished.
Spanish is the language spoken in Uruguay and in some border such as Rivera regions Portuñol (a mix of Spanish and Portuguese) is also spoken. The Uruguayan State is secular, with absolute freedom of religion. The separation between Church and State was established in the 1919 Constitution.
