As every year, Uruguay has been present at the ProWein 2013 International Fair, the largest wine fair in Europe, which this year was held in Düsseldorf (Germany) from 24th to 26th March. Wines of Uruguay was represented by 14 wineries which entered their produce and were very satisfied with the results. Moreover it was a fitting occasion for the association which represents wine exporters to present their new corporate image.

According to the event’s organizers more than 44 000 visitors attended the Dusseldorf  fair this year (ProWein 2012 had received 40 667 visitors). This time 40% of them were international guests, a 6% increase in the non German visitors the previous year. The event also attracted 4 783 stands from 48 countries.

Argentina, Chile South Africa and Uruguay got together to present  Flavors Of The South @ Prowein, an initiative at its own stand offering wine tasting seminars. This collaborative work from the countries in the southern hemisphere is a innovative approach to marketing and positioning in the market and the media in one of the most important international trade fairs.

In Uruguay’sss case the presentation was left on the capable hands of the journalist and food expert André Dominé, author and publisher of numerous books among which Wine stands out and has become an unavoidable reference text for somellieres. Dominé was born in Hamburg and lives in France since 1981. He is an influential figure in gastronomic and wine circles and has the added quality of causing an impression on all he meets.
