FacePhi is establishing a new team in Uruguay to provide better support to its customers in Latin America.

The facial recognition specialist currently provides secure onboarding services for financial institutions throughout the region, with recent clients including Argentina’s Banco de Corrientes and Uruguay’s own Creditel credit service. The company previously entered the country through a partnership with HSBC Uruguay in 2019.

The new team will include a variety of different specialists who will offer technical and advisory services. Though it will be based in Uruguay, it will serve customers in other LATAM countries. The presence of the Uruguayan team will allow FacePhi to be more responsive to the needs of customers in local time zones.

FacePhi is hoping that the team will generate even more opportunities in Latin America. Its activities will include new business development in addition to basic support.

FacePhi’s success in Latin America was a key part of its exceptional 2019 performance, when the company achieved year-over-year growth of more than 140 percent. The company is now trying to expand its presence in Asia as well as Latin America. FacePhi has already opened an APAC subsidiary in South Korea, and is now trying to leverage facial recognition to fight healthcare fraud at the country’s hospitals.
