“It was an excellent visit”, said the Finnish president Sauli Niinistö in his last public appearance in Uruguay, before returning to his country after a two-day visit.

He added that Finnish investors “found here a reliable partner”. And he remarked the ruling experience of his host, Uruguayan president Tabaré Vázquez. He also said he could walk peacefully in Montevideo, a “completely safe city”.

“Our countries have lot of things in common” –said Niinistö. He assured was impressed by Vazquez visions about Finland and his opinions about Latin America and global issues.

“The Finnish always want to have a trustworthy relationship with our partners and we have found one in Uruguay”, he said.

“The relationship is continuously evolving and there are a big interest to invest in this country”, he added.

He also told that he have the opportunity to walk by Montevideo with his wife Jenni Haukio “seeing its beauty and confirming that is a very safe place”.

At his turn Jukka Siukosaari, Finnish ambassador in Uruguay, said that an agreement between Uruguay and Finland customs to exchange information is in its way. “For both countries is important to know and share bilateral commerce statistics” –he said.

“The commerce between the two countries is making continuous progress”, said Siukosaari, “not only in the logging sector”. As an example he pointed out Montevideo’s Airport new air conditioning system, made by the Finnish company Oilson.

“Investments always have benefits for both countries” – he emphasized.
