Uruguay has established itself as one of the 10 counterseason blueberry suppliers for the main consumer markets; known for the quality of its product. Exports represent 1% of world consumption of the small “ berry”.

A few years ago, little was said about this fruit, but exports have increased steadily reaching a record high in 2011 of 2,713 tons, equivalent to US$ 16 million. The blueberry is the second fruit for export in Uruguay after citrus, and it represents 17 % of Uruguay’s total exports of fruit, according to a report done by URUGUAY XXI.
