The regional leader in animal health entered into an agreement with the Pando Science and Technology Park providing for the installation of a laboratory, with an initial investment of US$ 10 million, in addition to joint research.

«We are getting old. From a personal and professional standpoint, we try to give back to the country». In this way, the Southern Cone manager of Biogénesis Bagó, Guillermo Elordi from Uruguay, presented last Friday, the framework agreement that the leading Argentine company signed with Pando Science and Technology Park (PCTP) in the facilities of the cluster in Canelones. For over 20 years Biogénesis has been selling veterinary products in the Uruguayan market but until now it had not had any activity in the field of research and development, and of production.

This agreement, beyond joint research agreements, is the first step of the company towards the set up of a laboratory in Uruguay.

Elordi said to Café & Negocios that the idea is to work in the research and development of new molecules, as well as deal with productive and control projects. «We have a project geared towards the productive part. It is ready and we hope it is approved», he stated.

The initial investment will amount to US$ 10 million, but Elordi remarked that they will then see how far they can grow. «In Argentina last year we opened a plant for the manufacturing of vaccines for seasonal and exotic human influenza. The project started with an initial investment of US$ 20 million and finished with US$ 50 million», he claimed. The entrepreneur added that Argentine company technicians will work on the research projects together with the PCTP scientists, but that for the productive stage skilled Uruguayan labor will be required.

Biogénesis Bagó is regional leader in animal health and largest veterinary product exporter in Argentina. The company offers a portfolio of more than a hundred pharmaceutical products and advanced biological specialties, including bacterial vaccines, viral vaccines, antibiotics, parasiticides, nutritional additives and pharmaceutical specialties for animals.

The PCTP is an undertaking comprising the City Government of Canelones, the Ministry of Industry, the Chamber of Industries and the School of Chemistry of the University of the Republic of Uruguay.
