Time magazine ranked President José Mujica as one of the 100 most influential people in the world for its initiative to legalize marijuana.

The president is in the list of the «pioneers» and it stands out as «the revolutionary legalizing marijuana.»

The article highlights Mujica as the «poor president» for his modest lifestyle: doesn´t use a limo or live in the official residence.

The magazine explains that last year Mujica promoted the law for the production and trade of marijuana, it qualifies it as big step in the fight against drug trafficking and regulation of the drug market.

«Uruguay made a fascinating experiment that will be followed closely by supporters of legalization in other countries, including me,» said Meghan McCain, author of the article.

The president shares the list with Barack Obama, John Kerry, Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, Edward Snowden, Kim Jong Un, Nicolas Maduro, Michele Bachelet, Pope Francisco or Cristiano Ronaldo among others.
