On May 10, Plan Ceibal celebrated its sixth anniversary; to date, 885,895 of the plan’s XO computers have been given out. This is a major achievement; stacking all of these computers on top of each other would make a tower three times as high as Mount Everest.

The laptops have been distributed to students at different education levels in Uruguay: 62% primary education, 25% secondary education, 11% UTU, 1.4% CFD, 0.3% to kindergartens, 0.2% to community classrooms, and 0.4% to CECAP.

The Ceibalometer 2012 shows that Plan Ceibal has deployed 285 technical experts and received visits from 90 foreign delegations. It has received five international prizes, and launched the «Ceibal in English» initiative at 98 education centers.

The plan has developed almost 8,500 items of education content, and organized 15 contests. 172 solar panels have also been installed at 43 schools that are not connected to the power grid.

The Ceibal website has received over 828,000 visits, while the initiative’s Facebook page has chalked up 109,000 likes.

As another part of its birthday celebrations, Plan Ceibal organized a flashmob in Montevideo’s Old Town last week.
