WOOL ROOTS is a Fashion Film developed by Moweek along with Don Baez for the new edition of the winter fashion week 2021.

As part of the new edition of fashion week’s winter season, all of Moweek’s digital channels broadcasted the film premiere, seeking to introduce the public to the process of Uruguayan wool harvesting and a potentially sustainable path within fashion.

Drawing from the film’s initial subtitle, the piece tells “a story of working with wool in Uruguay”, as told through captivating sounds and natural images from our fields and a behind-the-scenes look at the national wool industry. The story immerses us in the history of a family wool business — Montelan (Don Baez) — from work on the field and the design process to daily tasks and the resulting finished products.

Don Baez is a company that, as Sofia Inciarte expresses, “stands out for choosing a sustainable path for its garments”. The company, led today by Claudia and Diana Weiss, offers sustainable and undyed wool products and represents standards and a set of values worthy of emulation across the industry.

As Inciarte points out, “this is a commitment that we want to echo, as a way to evolve and promote national design”.

Designer Matilde Pacheco mentions in the film that working at Don Baez is a challenge, where designers are pushed to create surprising new designs every year whilst always relying on the same material. Basic principles characterise and nourish the brand’s identity: three natural colours of wool (without dyeing process) and the use of variable combinations and constructed textures to make classic and long-lasting garments.

This short film, shot entirely in Uruguay, is directed by film director and photographer Horacio Reyes. The music, specially composed using sounds from the actual wool-processing machines, was created by country brand ambassador Daniel “Tatita” Marquez.
