Uruguay Teje (Uruguay Knits) is a solidary call for proposals born at the height of the pandemic, an initiative of the Texturable company with support from Lanas Trinidad, Leo Hilados, La Nave Multimodal, and the industry brand Uruguay Wools.

As Claudia, a designer at Texturable, puts it, this collaborative action seeks to promote the culture of wool design and provide other participants with tools to help navigate this very particular global situation.

Uruguay Teje was created to make the work of designers, artisans, artists, and creators more visible, promoting exchanges and meetings between different players in the wool sector, as well as with the public, both nationally and internationally.

With this project, the national brand Texturable seeks to socialize its knowledge about the industry,  foster links between participants in the sector, encourage respect for nature, and share its experience with sales and in the international market.  The company also offers access to its communication and international trade platforms, which it has been developing for the last 10 years.

Dynamics of the Request for Proposals

Who Can Participate?

Artists, designers, artisans, or anyone interested in creating and developing a project for home use in merino wool for subsequent national and international sale.

Applicants may submit a single individual project. This contest includes all people currently living in Uruguay.

How to Participate

Applicants can apply from 11 May to 1 June 2021 through the website, www.texturable.com, by filling in the registration form and attaching 5 photos of their work created with wool or the material they usually use.

Designs can make use of different techniques: two-needle knitting, loom, crochet, macramé, felting, etc.

The Winners

Thirty winners will be selected to receive the necessary raw materials in wool to complete their design of a product for home use. The product, after being subjected to strict quality controls, will be featured in a photo shoot along with the other winning designs.

The material will be published on Texturable’s  social networks with the corresponding credits and contact details to bring winning designs to the general public. Simultaneously, the winning products will be commercialised in a special section of www.texturable.com, recognizing the winner’s authorship. Winners will also be invited to a  virtual training session in online sales with Claudia Rosillo, a designer at Texturable.
